Outremercatamarans
Outremer is a French yard in La Grande Motte that builds light sailing catamarans made for long ocean passages.
About the brand
The yard was founded in 1984 by Gérard Danson and Daniel Cailloux; its first project was a 40-foot catamaran for ocean passages. Since 2007 Outremer has belonged to the Grand Large Yachting group and still builds in La Grande Motte in the south of France. The boats have narrow hulls, low weight and retractable daggerboards instead of fixed keels, so they hold a course to windward better than voluminous catamarans of the same length. The VPLP Design studio works on the current models.
In charter
Outremer rarely appears in charter; most of the boats serve private owners on long passages and are offered crewed rather than bareboat. Speed is paid for in space and in price. The interior is smaller than in catamarans of similar length built directly for hire, and handling the daggerboards together with the larger sail area assumes a more experienced crew.
