Leopard Catamaranscatamarans

South Africa (production) · since 1997

Leopard Catamarans is a brand of sailing and power catamarans built by the South African yard Robertson & Caine in Cape Town. The brand is owned by the British group Travelopia.

About the brand

The Robertson & Caine yard was founded in 1991 by John Robertson and Jerry Caine in Cape Town. From 1995 it built catamarans for the charter companies The Moorings and Sunsail. The Leopard brand was created in 1997 as a version of the same boats for private owners. Today the range comprises the Leopard 43, 46 and 52 sailing catamarans and the 40 PC, 46 PC and 53 PC power catamarans, all designed by the Simonis Voogd studio.

In charter

Leopards are common in charter, because much of the production goes straight into the Moorings and Sunsail fleets. The same boat therefore also shows up in listings under the Moorings or Sunsail name with its own number. They are built for space and durability, not for speed. They are slower to windward than lighter catamarans of similar length and take two berths in a marina.
