Boat type

Rent aCatamaran

Two hulls, almost no heel and the most living space per metre of length.

Who it’s for

A catamaran is the choice for families with children and for groups that want room to spread out. The cabins sit apart in separate hulls, so you can sleep aboard while someone is still up on deck. A shallow draft lets you anchor closer to shore than a sailboat of the same length.

What to weigh up

Space has a price. A catamaran costs more to charter and more in the marina than a sailboat of similar size, because it takes up two berths. It is slower to windward and handles differently in tight harbours, though two engines set far apart make that easier.

Questions

Questions: Katamarán

Is a catamaran a good choice for people who get seasick?

In most cases, yes. It does not heel and the motion is gentler, so the ride is calmer than on a sailboat.

How many people fit on a catamaran?

Usually ten to twelve for a day out. For sleeping it is fewer, the number of berths is always lower than the number of daytime guests.

Do I need a special licence for a catamaran?

In most areas a standard skipper’s licence is enough, though charter companies often ask for catamaran experience. We confirm this for the specific boat.
