What sailing is like here
In summer the Cyclades are swept by the meltemi, a northerly wind that regularly tops twenty knots in August. It is a cruise for a more seasoned crew. The Ionian Sea on the western side is far calmer and suits families with children. Distances between the islands are greater than on the Adriatic.
Season
The season runs from April to October. The meltemi peaks in July and August; anyone who wants the Cyclades without the strong wind sails in June or September.

Which part of Greece suits a first cruise?
The Ionian islands. The wind is lighter, the distances shorter, and there are enough anchorages even in high season.
What is the meltemi?
A dry northerly wind that blows across the Aegean from June to September. It brings cooler air and superb sailing, but it calls for experience and a plan with room to spare.
Can Greece be combined with Turkey?
Yes, but sailing between the two countries means crossing a border, with the customs and harbour formalities that come with it. For a specific boat we check whether the operator allows it.
